Since I know very little about these books and have read only a few and do not really want to select one you have already read, I am putting out three selections for us to choose from in order of my preference. I thought a book about a dad would be nice since we had one about a mom. The Mango is not mentioned until a later chapter so I do not know if you have read it but here they are – let me know.

2. A Prayer for Owen Meany – John Irving
3. The Bite of the Mango – Mariatu Kamara

I have not read any of the three and would be quite acceptable with your first choice. One of the things I have always loved about my LaJolla Reader book club is reading something I never would have found on my own and enjoying a new adventure into the unknown..
